Scozzie Director, Paul Frank, is an Australian with an extensive playing background, top level coaching qualifications from Australia, Asia, and England, a Masters degree in Psychology, and over 25 years experience coaching elite level players. Paul has personally coached over 25 National Champions in four different countries and led programs which produced two World Number 1’s. Since establishing Scozzie in 2011, the successes have continued, with the program emerging as clearly the winningest junior program in US Squash. To see the coaches vlog please click here.
Scozzie Head Coach, Lyall Paterson, has proven himself to be one of the most popular and successful junior coaches in the United States in the past five years. A driving force behind Scozzie since our beginnings in 2015, Lyall has had formative influences on all our National Champions, most notably Sean Hughes (2015 BU19 National Champion). In terms of formal qualifications, Lyall has an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Edinburgh’s prestigious Napier University and holds a United Kingdom Coaching Certification. As a player, Lyall is a former Finalist in the British Inter-Collegiate Championships, and has represented his native country, Scotland, in World and European Championships at junior and senior level for over a decade. A Philly native, Jamie Ruggiero is our latest addition to the Scozzie Coaching staff! In his High School career Jamie was a three time winner of National Championships with Episcopal Academy. In college Jamie played #1 for Williams, was a 4 time All-NESCAC Team Selection and Captained the team in his senior year. Throughout his college career, Jamie recorded wins against Yale, Dartmouth, F&M and St. Lawrence in the #1 position in the lineup. Jamie’s undergraduate degree is in Environmental Policy and as one of our Touring Pro’s, he intends to extensively play on the World Men’s Professional Tour.
Mick is Scozzies Pathway Manager – charged with making sure our players have smooth transitions from beginner to improver to advanced player. Before coming to Scozzie, Michael has been an active player and coach in Holland. He coached National U/19 Champions and represented the Dutch National Team. Before that, Michael has been National Coach of the Czech Republic and brought their U/19 Team to the Top 4 in Europe for the first time. To see Mick’s vlog please click here.
Scozzie Coach Jason Hua, was a graduate of Lawrenceville before going on to study at Swarthmore, Majoring in Chemistry and Biology. A three year Captain of the Swarthmore Club Team, Jason made huge contributions on and off the court to further develop the program. Upon graduation, Jason worked as Director of Squash and Fitness at Squash Smarts. He is a US Squash Level II Certified Coach and a passionate player.
In his native country of Wales, Sam Fenwick was a three-time junior national champion and represented the welsh junior national team in multiple European and World Championships. He was also selected to represent the Welsh senior national team in two European Championships. More recently, Sam graduated from Yale University with a degree in Political Science. During his time at Yale he achieved individual accolades such as Second Team All-American, 2x All-Ivy Team, Academic All-Ivy, and was elected as team captain. In his role as captain, he led the Yale men’s team to an undefeated Ivy League title and their first National Championship title since 1980.
Scozzie Coach, Louise Frank, is a former professional player and has been ranked as high as 50 in the world. Louise represented her native country of Scotland at all junior and senior levels in World, European and Commonwealth Championships. A former Scottish Coach of the Year, Louise also has Masters in Physiology, and high level strength and conditioning qualifications. Louise primarily works with our athletes off court, using her squash-specific training / background / knowledge in strength and conditioning, injury prevention and nutrition work with our squash athletes.
Bryan is our Scozzie Trainer and is behind many of our off court training activities. Bryan has an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Temple and is currently engaged in an MSc. at Drexel. A enthusiastic squash player, he has a competitive background in bowling, as well as playing and coaching hockey. To see the coaches vlog click here.
Chris hails from Manchester where he was an elite junior performance squash coach heading up the Manchester squash programme. He was also apart of the team that took his sister Laura Massaro to Number 2 in the world and world champion. Chris has coached numerous professional players and four juniors to the final of British National Championships. An excellent player, and a qualified NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) Practitioner, BSC in Sports performance coaching and a MA in Elite performance coaching. A Philly native and Scozzie Alum, Maya Patel is our latest addition to the Scozzie Coaching staff! In High School, Maya played for The Baldwin School, where she was honored as MVP twice, elected captain, and was a member of the school’s first Mid-Atlantic Squash Association (MASA) Championship team. In college, Maya played in the top 5 for Columbia and Captained the team her senior year. In May, Maya graduated with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and is now working in Clinical Research for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Neurology Department. On a part-time basis, Maya is very excited to return to Scozzie with a particular focus on coaching and mentoring young girls in their journey through squash!
