Scozzie gets it done at the BerWin Silver!

IMG_3303Scozzies headed to the Berwyn Squash Center for the last silver event of the summer and unlike Conor McGregor we went the distance!

We rocked up strong and walked away with a lot BerWinning! Standouts for the event were Winston, Ben, Nick, Colten, Albert, Neil, Tom and Alex with a PB!

The BU/11 Up n’ Comers  headed solely by our next world beater Colten McLaughlin displayed poise and grit to bring home the second place silverware. Well done Colten you’re a pleasure to coach and big things ahead little man!IMG_3291

The BU/13 was all Winston Tang who went into the event with a “winner takes all approach” to gain sufficient ranking points to secure entry into the upcoming JCT’s. Mission accomplished!  Not a single game lost thanks to his handy backhand drop and clutch mentality. Also in top form and following in big brother’s footsteps Ben Bradlow won the consolation draw against scozzie compatriot Nicolas Mazzeo in a see-saw final with both boys leaving it all out there.

The BU/15 led by Albert Chen was jam packed and closing out with a solid 3rd place finish. The best match of the event to a sell out crowd on centre court was Austin Zhuang. After losing a third set nail-biter 22-20 to go 2/1 down, though unlike McGregor Austin’s fitness prevailed and crushed the 4th and 5th game 11-5. Another head turner was Alex Wang who finished 2nd in the consolation draw left the building with a personal best in a US Squash sanctioned event.

IMG_3294The main event of the day saw Nick Parente attempt to bring home the BU/17 title but was outclassed by Karrar Khafajl working his way to a US ranking after immigrating to the USA from Egypt. Nick tried his heart out but Karrar who will soon be in the top 10 was too strong.

Well done to Tom Hogan for his 3rd place finish and most convincing 3-0 win against an opponent who delivered many problems and frustrating battles in the past.  Scozzie’s last consolation winner of the day is Neil Bam who only a day ago won a tough battle on one leg due to tendinitis in his knee. Neil stuck to the game plan and executed his shots to perfection. Neil would like to thank ice and advil!

Well done to all Scozzie’s, your sportsmanship and resilience makes our brand even stronger. The hard work over summer has clearly paid off; big things for the season ahead.

    Keep Berwinning!
